Welcome to First Baptist Hazlehurst!

We are grateful for your presence here and invite you to visit our church personally. Take a few moments to check out the information about our worship services and ministries. It is our great privilege to minister to you and your family.

What We Believe

We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God and the basis for our beliefs. God's Word as revealed in the Holy Bible is our sole authority in matters of faith and practice. We do agree with, however, and accept the doctrinal statement of The Baptist Faith and Message, 2000, as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.

FOLLOWING JESUS

Saved?

Sometimes Christians use the phrase "saved" to describe someone who has come to salvation in Christ.

Saved from what?

If salvation in Christ leads to eternity with God, then we are saved from an eternity apart from God. The Bible calls this eternity apart from God "Hell". Hell is not a popular word or thought these days, but the Bible teaches that hell is real just as heaven is real. If hell is real and eternity is real, then how where we will spend eternity becomes the single greatest decision we will face in life.

Why Can Jesus Save Us?

The Bible says that the penalty for sin is death--hell (Romans 3:23). The Bible also teaches that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, and died on a cross 2000 years ago to take the penalty for sin--all of our sin--on Himself. He arose from the dead three days later. Just as He is alive, those who surrender to Him and follow Him can share in both His forgiveness of sin (for which He paid the penalty) and in eternal life.

How Do We Come to Salvation?

Salvation in Jesus Christ comes when we surrender our lives to Him. Jesus becomes our "savior", the one who saves us from the penalty of sin, and "Lord", the one who is in charge of our lives. Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God.

He said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me."

Salvation comes when you:

  1. Admit you are a sinner and separated from God by your sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 (NIV)

  2. Believe that Christ died for your sins and as Lord, came back from the dead. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord" Romans 6:23 (NIV)

  3. Receive God's total forgiveness for your sins by trusting Christ as your Savior and being willing to surrender to Him. "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe" Romans 3:22 (NIV)

  4. Express your desire for Christ to be the Lord of your life. "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 (NLV) If you are willing to surrender your life to Christ, and receive God's gift of eternal life, you can express this desire to God through prayer.

You might pray something like this:

Dear God, I am a sinner and want to be forgiven. I believe Jesus Christ, your son, died for my sins and is alive right now. I turn away from my sin and now surrender to Jesus Christ as my Lord and receive him into my life. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to control my life and I thank you for giving me eternal life. If you commit your life to Christ, the next step is really simple: Tell us! Contact us at fbchazlehurst.org and we will help you to begin your new life in Christ!
